Welcome to MyLocalHistory.org

MyLocalHistory.org is a fully developed framework for a Vermont-grown Digital Museum Project. Through the gracious participation of the Richmond Historical Society (RHS), this prototype will serve as a model for the development of a nonprofit service specifically designed to serve the historical societies in Vermont and beyond.

In this development phase we will be posting samples of Richmond artifacts in each category of digital media. The overall purpose of this model is to educate local residents and history enthusiasts of the possibilities that an on-line museum can create. The immediate goal is for RHS and its supporters to create a "wish list" of the total artifacts that ultimately will be recorded in one or more forms of digital media and posted on this web site. We would then be responsible for finding the funding and resources to make it all happen.

Taking the first step...

February 11, 2007 marks our official launch of this exciting project. On this day we presented this working model at the Board meeting of the Richmond historical Society with the explicit request that they provide for us a list of all the artifacts, displays and research they would like to see on their own section of this web site. Once they have provided this "Project List" we will begin the first phase.

Phase I will focus primarily on the part of the Society's collection that is publicly or readily available. This will give the Board and supports of this organization time to adjust to the concept of Digital Archiving. Our intention is to avoid overwhelm by working on a smaller, easier list. Phase II will be a "Member Login" the content of which will be decided by the Richmond Historical Society at a later time.
